The Rotaract Club of Chicago raised over $5600.00, which we was achieved through the efforts of our members and in collaboration with Rotary One.
The elementary school of 300 pupils, located in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, is situated in the northeast region of Mexico bordering Texas. There is a current estimated population of 2.7 million people. It is a region that is plagued with a high level of poverty lacking basic living needs.
The project’s mission was to focus on substandard learning conditions of at least 300 pupils, the sanitation conditions of the dilapidated school, build long term relationship with the children and pupil’s of the school.
Proceeds that were collected by the Rotaract Club of Chicago were used to purchase new plumbing, new computers, building materials and toilets; to construct a soccer field, to build a security parameter wall, to construct a school library, and to subsidize “B” student scholarships.
Labor will be provided by the Matamoros community and directed by Club Rotaract Matamoros 91. The final phase of the project involved both Rotaract Clubs meeting at the elementary school in Matomoros, Mexico to do the maintenance tasks such as painting and maintenance in order to provide the students with the most conducive learning environment possible.
